Investigative Reporting Fellowships

New York Civic is currently accepting entries for its new investigative journalism fellowship program. In November 2011, New York Civic will award a total of $6,000 in fellowships to professional reporters, bloggers, graduate students, and undergraduate students in New York State in recognition of outstanding investigative reporting.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:

Any professional reporter or blogger working in New York State may apply for the Mary Perot Nichols Award. Any graduate student who is a New York State resident or is currently enrolled in a university in New York State may apply for the Murray Kempton Award. Any undergraduate student who is a New York State resident or is currently enrolled in a college or university in New York State may apply for the Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Award.

HOW TO APPLY:

To be considered for any of New York Civic's fellowships, applicants must submit an original work of investigative reporting written or published between January 1, 2010 and October 1, 2011. Along with the article, applicants should fill out this typeable PDF form and return it either by email to fellowships@nycivic.org or by mail to: New York Civic, 450 Park Avenue South, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10016.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS:

All submissions must be received by October 31, 2011. Winners will be announced on or by November 30, 2011.

First Prize: $2000
Runner-Up: $1000

Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Investigative Journalism Award for New York State Undergraduate Students

First Prize: $1000
Runner-Up: $500

Murray Kempton Investigative Journalism Award for New York State Graduate Students

First Prize: $1000
Runner-Up: $500

ADDITIONAL RULES:

New York Civic reserves the right to publish on its website works submitted for consideration for this contest, even those that are not awarded a monetary prize. New York Civic may also, at its discretion, recognize co-winners in any or all categories and divide the fellowship funds and runner-up prize between the two top finishers. Current or former New York Civic employees are not eligible to enter this contest.
