Thank you so much for this trip down memory lane. I’m always pleasantly
surprised to read the “old” names that pop up on your page.
I’m a long-time resident of Forest Hills in Queens and, until about 10 years
ago, there was a coffee shop near the Midway theater on Queens Boulevard
and Continental Avenue. Above the coffee shop were the offices of Councilman
Povman and Geraldine Ferraro. Each morning, as I took coffee with my
friends before work, you could always find Jimmy Breslin and/or Pete Hamill
at one of the tables. Jimmy was a regular there since he lived close by in
Kew Gardens. Of course, around the corner was the Democratic Party’s Queens
offices. What a star-studded group we had up there: Donny Mannes, Alan Hevesi,
etc.
