In the argot of journalism, the word 'lede' is used to refer to the first sentence or paragraph of a story, or the most prominent story on a page.  I realize that, in an article like this one, lede is a bit of an affectation, but, on the other hand, you learned something.  And a few of us would really like to be journalists.
